Pages: 27 Abstract: The whole issue of who says what to whom; what is respectful and what is demeaning; and what language use promotes cooperative, productive interpersonal interaction, is an increasingly difficult topic. American English is saturated with "the language of oppression," which is perpetuated by a lack of awareness and understanding of language as an instrument of oppression. The 4th edition of The Diversity Factor Language Guide is not a collection of politically correct terminology or a dictionary of racial and ethnic slurs, but a review of how language both reflects and shapes our world. The Diversity Factor Language Guide is very much a work-in-progress. We welcome suggestions for improvement. Issue: n/a, Online Language Guide 3rd ed. Volume: 0, Number: 0 |
